From 2007-2022, the University of Southern California Annenberg Inclusion Initiative Study revealed less than one percent of film characters were Native American. According to UCLA’s Annual Hollywood Diversity Report there were no Native American leads in theatrical films in 2023. In addition, the UCLA study confirmed there were no top theatrical films in 2023 that were created by Native American writers or directors.
